Phantom Flowers
A reusable UE5 foot-contact VFX that gives artists control over the look and timing of magical flower footsteps without editing the underlying shader, Blueprint, or Niagara systems.

Idea
I wanted a character to leave ethereal flowers beneath each footstep. The flowers should bloom on contact, remain briefly as the character moves away, then softly dissolve into sparkles. I (the artist) needed to be able to recolor and retime the effect without rebuilding the VFX.
Solution
I built a character-independent foot-contact effect that accepts a world-space transform and coordinates the ground response, flower growth, lifecycle, and particles from a small set of parameters.
Artist Controls
One color drives the flower gradient, ground pulse, glow, and sparkles. Timing controls for desired visual behavior:
Grow > Linger > Fade.
How It Works
The effect is independent of any specific character. In production, an Animation Notify or gameplay event can supply the foot's world-space transform. For this portfolio demo, I used a spline-driven proxy to simulate those contacts.
